Legend

The weather vane on the cathedral was my starting point. According to a local legend, a mermaid protected sailors from harm.

I wanted not only to imagine this mythical guardian, but also to convey a sense of place through her: the history of the land embraced by the waters of the Pregolya.

For me, the mermaid becomes more than a figure from a legend. She is an image of the city, its river and its memory of the past.
