When Hiding in the Shadows

This work grew out of personal experience. Where can a girl hide when she is not allowed to speak or to be creative?

Modesty was once considered a virtue. That is why she wears a deliberately old-fashioned dress. But modesty imposed from childhood can do more than shield someone from attention: it can limit their opportunities and their future, like scissors cutting hair.

Sometimes I simply wanted to disappear into the shadows, where nobody would notice me. At those times, I found comfort in the eyes of animals.
